One day, unbeknownst to the people of the land, under their very feet, a great mass of toxic waste thought to have been safely buried after the great mushroom war had spent all those quite years gathering and festering long enough until finally BOOM! A great geyser formed and erupted releasing the toxic waste like an open wound and began to rain down upon the land spreading through and over the ground and through the air permanently preventing the growth of crops and poisoning half of the forest’s lakes and rivers and infecting those who drink from them or swim in them and polluting the sky with a deadly and impenetrable smog of green poison.
